Lake Tishomingo Daily Creel Limits, March 2007

TAA Update, July 23 2007

by Gary Ryan

With the help of Kevin Scheirich and John Johnston, we turned in all the aluminun cans for a total of $690.00. I picked up the other creel limit sign and paid the remaining balance of $115.00 so that leaves us with a balance of $575.00. Barb and Dixie collected $250.00 at the gate so that makes it $825.00. Add to that the balance we have at Truman Bank which is $61.86 and that gives us a balance of $886.86. I hope there is a way we can put this in an account without having to spend $300.00 on a non-profit status. Are we going to be able to get around that?

On Friday August 3rd at 7:00 pm I have asked two fisheries biologists, Kenda Flores, the MDC biologist for our lake, and Marvin Boyer, the MDC Biologist for the lakes at August A. Busch Wildlife Area, to speak at a meeting in front of the LTPOA board and any lotowners here at the lake that are concerned about the water willow and whether it can be controlled. They will speak on the importance of aquatic vegetation and what it means to water quality and the fisheries. They will also speak on the ease and the ways to control it. I hope I see you all at the community house on this date.

The tournament Saturday night July 21 had 13 participants and was won by Skip Fluegel. 2nd place went to Tim Ernst and Dwayne Weber. About 50 fish were filleted and frozen for the Oct. Adult-Child Tourney.

Small Bass Tournament, June 9, 2007

by Gary Ryan

The June 9th TAA bass tournament was successful in harvesting approximately 100 bass that measured 12 inches or less. Any fish that measured over the 12-inch mark were immediately returned to the lake.

The 1st place finishers were Al Maulding and his 11-year old son Joe Maulding with a total count of 21 fish. Their success in the tournament is no surprise considering their recent fishing trips at Lake Tishomingo. Joe has caught more bass in one day at this lake than anywhere else. Al and Joe both practice catch and release.

The 2nd place finishers were Gary and Beth Ryan with 15 fish. Beth had a lot of fun fishing her first tournament. Maybe Gary has a fishing buddy now.

Each boat of fisherman filled out a fishing report in which they logged every bass length they caught. These reports will be handed over to the MDC fishing biologist for review.

The reports indicated that there were some bigger fish that were caught and released. Tom Diebold reported the biggest bass between 18" and 18.4" inches in length. Al Maulding tallied an 18-incher. In all there were 20 bass immediately released that measured over 12 inches. This practice of good conservation will give everyone a better chance of catching bigger fish in the future.

Thank you everyone who participated and who helped fillet the harvested bass for a future fish fry. The next small bass tourney was penciled in for June 30th but will have to be rescheduled as we celebrate Independence Day.

Speaking of good fishing ... click to see the attached picture of a May topwater Tishomingo bass by Jason Covington. Jason says "This was the longest bass I have seen or caught out here, maybe 23-23.5 inches. It appeared to be spawned out and was not as heavy as it would have been a month ago. I did not weigh or measure it. I lipped it, got a picture, and released it immediately unharmed." more . . .

Poaching Violators Should Be Prosecuted

TAA Meeting March 9, 2007

On Friday March 9 at 7 pm the first fish club meeting of 2007 kicks off with the election of officers to the board. We're planning for a full slate of board officials and more memberships than ever before.

We need to discuss plans on how we will comply to the recommendations that the MDC fisheries biologist gave us in the report. These items influce fish stocking, creel limits, and fish habitat.

Show that you are interested just by emailing Gary Ryan at h2owillow@yahoo.com. You'll then be considered a member and you will be updated by email with the latest fish news, whether you want to get off the lake to attend a fish meeting or not.
