Ricotta House Fire

The home of Alan Ricotta on the north side of the lake was the scene of fire Friday, Nov 18. There was extensive damage to the contents and they are unable to stay in the house. The family is staying at a hotel in Festus until other arrangements can be made.

The Ricottas need a house to stay in, with at least 4 bedrooms. To offer help to this family call Alan Ricotta cell phone: (314) 324-0085 or work: (636) 274-5900.

To all our friends at Lake Tishomingo

The fire on September 4, 2005 changed our lives forever. It has been a real challenge to accept what has been dealt to us, but becuse of our faith, we are managing the best that we can.

The first couple of days were the hardest and all of the neighbors down here somehow made that easier. Thank you just doesn't seem like enough for all the help and contributions that we have received through this ordeal.

Everyone seems to be adjusting well except for maybe Abbey, who just doesn't quite understand why her house and toys were taken away. The gifts, toys, and money have made this easier for making a livable environment in the temporary house that we are in.

Thanks from our hearts to each and every one who gave anything, even just a prayer. We will be forever thankful for the comunity that we live in and cherish each and every one of you.

Janet & Dale Farwig and Family

Thank you

Pat and I wish to thank all of our friends for the love and support shown to us at  the death of our Grandson, Spc. Adam J. Harting in Iraq.  Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Lake Tish Fire

Sunday Sept 4

Early this morning fire completely destroyed the home of Janet and Dale Farwig. No one was at home at the time, there were no injuries, but the house and all their belongings are gone.

Janet and Dale have been the most generous of all volunteers at the lake for many years -- Dale served on the LTPOA Board for 6 years and Janet is currently on the LTIA Board. Dale continues to help the community by making repairs to the Community House, cutting trees, mowing the grass, and taking the cans to the recycling center to pay for stocking of the lake.

They have four daughters -- Natalie, 16; Samantha, 14; Alex, 12; and Abbey, 5. The three older girls have been major contributors to the lake by collecting over $6000 for the annual fireworks displays.

This family deserves our help -- and we as a community must come together and provide that help. LTIA President Gail Lents is coordinating the collection of goods and funds to help them. Please be generous, make your checks payable to Dale Farwig and send them to

You can contact Gail at (636) 274-4245.

Irene Ross and Hurricane Katrina

Former lake resident Irene Ross lives in Biloxi MS and the flood waters of Hurricane Katrina have done great damage there. Irene's granddaughter, Lisa Mahoney, now lives at Lake Tish and sends the following notice.

As you may or may not know, my grandmother, Irene Ross, resident of Lake Tishomingo from 1948 until around 2002 has her home in Biloxi, Ms. Fortunately she was in St. Louis with my parents Betty & Lou Struckman during the hurricane. We have other family as well in Biloxi & we have found that everyone is fine. Some homes have been lost & others damaged. My grandmothers home she shares with my parents is still standing but was filled with 10 - 12 ft of water so the contents are more than likely all destroyed. They are 1 block off the beach & extremely blessed that the entire house was not destroyed. The historical church on the corner is totally wiped out as was the southern mansion across the street from the church. A young woman was also killed who had decided to stay on the same block.

We are anxious to go down to assess the damage, lend moral support & help others in the community. I am sponsoring a relief effort through my business in hillsboro, Special Stuff. Please pass along this information to others you think may feeel compelled to help. Attached is a flyer I have distributed and a copy of the article from todays journal. Thanks so much.

TEARS ARE SHED
OUR FLAG IS FLOWN AT HALF STAFF

"Although words cannot begin to ease the sorrow of your loss, please know that you are in the thoughts of so many who care."

These or similar words are found on many sympathy cards and they aptly express the feelings of so many property owners here at Lake Tishomingo, who wish to express our deepest regrets to Lou and Pat Harting, whose grandson lost his life in Samarra. Iraq on Monday, July 25, 2005.

Spc. Adam J. Harting of Portage, Indiana, assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, based in Fort Stewart, Georgia, was serving the United States government when an explosive device detonated near this Bradley Fighting Vehicle. In our estimation, Adam is a true American Hero. He was fighting in a foreign land to assist the Iraqi people in a time of transition, ensuring they can gain independence and then enjoy the same freedoms that we appreciate in the United States. Adam was but 21 years of age, and had just returned to Iraq to begin his third tour of duty. He will always be remembered both by family members and friends as a hero.

Although we cannot experience the loss personally, we can share in the grief of Lou and Pat. Both of them do so much to make our lake a better place, Pat serving as a member of the Board of Directors, and Lou scheduling the volunteers who help keep our subdivision neat and tidy. They have our most heartfelt condolences and sympathy as they deal with this tragedy.

Sincerely,
The Board of Directors - LTPOA
The Board of Directors - LTIA
Working Committee Members of Both Organizations
